Resumo: This study aims to evaluate the knowledge on breastfeeding among pregnant women and to verify the influence of educative lectures. It is a descriptive study. Data were collected in October, 2006 through a structured form applied during interviews carried out before and after the participation on the lectures. Thirty-one women aged between 17 and 38 years old who had never breastfed were interviewed. These participants were a high risk population to precocious wean, since they had a familiar income lower than three minimum salaries. The evaluation showed that most women who obtained excellent concepts had higher economic and academic levels. After the lectures, the number of corrects answers increased among the participants, rising from 631 to 818, which corresponds to a 20,1% increase. The study shows the importance of educative lectures in stimulating and supporting breastfeeding.

Se trata de un estudio descriptivo cuya recogida de datos se efectuó en octubre de 2006, con ayuda de un formulario estructurado a través de una entrevista realizada antes y después de la participación de las embarazadas en la conferencia. Fueron entrevistadas 31 mujeres entre 17 y 38 años que nunca habían amamantado. Las participantes constituían una población del riesgo para el destete precoz, con ingreso familiar inferior a los tres salarios mínimos. En la evaluación, la mayoría de las mujeres que obtuvo concepto excelente era de mejor nivel económico y mayor escolaridad. Después de la conferencia, el índice de aciertos entre las embarazadas aumentó de 631 para 818, correspondiendo a un aumento del 20.1% en el número de preguntas correctas. Se percibe la importancia de la realización de conferencias educativas para estimular y apoyar la lactancia materna.Objetivou-se, com esta pesquisa, avaliar o conhecimento de gestantes sobre aleitamento materno e verificar a influência de palestras educativas no conhecimento delas. Trata-se de estudo descritivo. A coleta dos dados ocorreu em outubro de 2006, por meio de um formulário estruturado e entrevista realizada antes e depois da participação das gestantes na palestra. Foram entrevistadas 31 mulheres com idade entre 17 e 38 anos, que nunca haviam amamentado. As participantes constituíam população de risco para o desmame precoce por possuírem renda familiar inferior a três salários mínimos. Na avaliação, a maioria das mulheres que obteve conceito excelente tinha bom nível econômico e boa escolaridade. Após a palestra, o índice de acertos aumentou entre as gestantes, passando de 631 para 818, correspondendo a um aumento de 20,1% no número de questões corretas.
