Resumo: OBJECTIVES: This study aims to identify the existence of prejudice related to the nursing profession, to recognize the types of prejudice perceived by nurses, to describe who expresses it and to highlight ways to face it. METHODS: It is a quantitative, history-social and exploratory study, with 23 interviewed participants. RESULTS: Prejudice was present in several circumstances, including inside family context. The target group is of nurses graduated between 1940 and 2000. CONCLUSION: The research may encourage interest in new studies as well as deeper questions and problems that involve perceptions related to prejudice.

MÉTODOS: Se trata de un estudio cuantitativo, histórico-social y exploratorio para el cual fueron realizadas 23 entrevistas. RESULTADOS: Las manifestaciones de prejuicio fueron detectadas en varios ambientes, incluso en el familiar. La población objeto de estudio estuvo compuesta por enfermeros graduados entre los años 1940 y 2000. CONCLUSIÓN: La investigación podrá despertar interés por nuevas encuestas, profundizando cuestiones y problemas que involucren percepciones sobre la temática.OBJETIVOS: Identificar a existência de preconceitos relacionados com a profissão de enfermagem; levantar os tipos de preconceitos percebidos pelos enfermeiros; descrever quem eram as pessoas que os manifestavam; e pontuar as formas de enfrentamento. MÉTODOS: Trata-se de um estudo quantitativo, histórico-social e exploratório para o qual foram realizadas 23 entrevistas. RESULTADOS: As manifestações de preconceito foram apontadas em diversos ambientes, até mesmo no familiar. A população-alvo do estudo é composta por enfermeiros formados em diferentes décadas (de 1940 a 2000).
