Actions of health education carried out by nurses at school: perception of parents

Resumo: The extension project "Seeds of Knowledge" of a Higher Education Institution inserts the nurse in the children school context, developing educational activities in which perceived the weaknesses of parents in relation to these practices in daily life. This qualitative research aimed to analyze the perception of parents on educational activities undertaken by nursing teachers and students of this institution. Held in july 2011, with twelve parents in a public school in Teresina, from whose speeches were semantically categorized and analyzed according to the theoretical framework, demonstrated the value of these activities, since they are informed of the health status of children, and learn about health-promoting actions and the prevention of diseases, developing them at home, thereby reducing financial expenditures with diseases. A creative and special care exercised by the nurse at school results in a professional development and new strategies in working, where the students are prepared for self-care and the adoption of healthy habits.

A creative and special care exercised by the nurse at school results in a professional development and new strategies in working, where the students are prepared for self-care and the adoption of healthy habits.El proyecto de extensión "Semillas del Conocimiento" de una Institución de Enseñanza Superior inserta a los enfermeros dentro del contexto escolar infantil, desarrollando acciones educativas en las cuales se observan las fragilidades de los padres en el día a día de las prácticas. La presente investigación cualitativa tuvo como objetivo analizar la percepción de los padres sobre las actividades educativas en salud realizadas por los docentes y discentes de enfermería de dicha institución. La investigación se efectuó en julio de 2011, con doce padres en una escuela pública de Teresina. Los discursos, categorizadas semánticamente y analizados según el referente teórico, evidenciaron la valorización de estas actividades. A los padres se les informa el estado de salud de los hijos, aprenden acciones promotoras de la salud y preventivas de cautela de agravios, desarrollándolas en el hogar y disminuyendo, por ende, gastos financieros con enfermedades. Los cuidados diferenciados y creativos ejercidos por los enfermeros en la escuela resultan en la valorización profesional y, asimismo, en nuevas estrategias de trabajo pues a los niños se los prepara para que sepan cuidarse y para que adopten costumbres saludables.O projeto de extensão "Sementes do Conhecimento", de uma Instituição de Ensino Superior, insere o enfermeiro no contexto escolar infantil desenvolvendo ações educativas nas quais são percebidas as fragilidades dos pais no cotidiano dessas práticas. Com esta pesquisa qualitativa, objetivou-se analisar a percepção de pais sobre ações educativas em saúde realizadas pelos docentes e discentes de enfermagem dessa instituição. Realizada em julho de 2011, com 12 pais numa escola pública de Teresina, as falas, categorizadas semanticamente e analisadas segundo referencial teórico, evidenciaram a valorização dessas atividades. Os pais são informados do estado de saúde dos filhos, aprendem ações promotoras de saúde e preventivas de agravos, desenvolvendo-as no lar, diminuindo, portanto, gastos financeiros com doença.
