Social media and traditional media: dispute and articulation on Dilma Rousseff's impeachment signification

Using laclaunian discourse theory, the paper analyses the relation set between the discourse of the groups Endireita Brasil, Brasil Livre e Vem pra Rua and the mainstream national media vehicles -represented by the newspapers A Folha de São Paulo and O Globo -in the time Dilma Rousseff, then President, was tried and prosecuted by the Congress. The analysis has shown that O Globo and A Folha de São Paulo were, at the beginning of the impeachment process, discouraged the continuance of the process, showing concern with the political instability the prosecution could cause. This stance was widely denounced by the movements by the time. As the protests increased, as well as many groups came to endorse the impeachment process, O Globo reconsidered its position and made a vast coverage of all the events that resulted in Dilma’s impeachment. A Folha, however, maintained its position till the end of the process.
