Educational practices with the synthesizer in the Higher Music Education in Catalonia

Resumo: Despite its fundamental role in modern musical creation, the synthesizer still lacks widespread recognition within music education programs in Catalonia, Spain. This study examined educational practices related to the synthesizer in Higher Music Education in the region. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight teachers specialized in this instrument. The data analysis was carried out following the guidelines of Thematic Analysis, revealing three general themes: (i) the teaching of the synthesizer is oriented towards creative objectives, (ii) the synthesizer is taught differently depending on the specialty and the repertoire (iii) the synthesizer does not have its own instrumental modality. The article concludes with a discussion advocating for the integration of the synthesizer into music education programs to promote a more contextualized and meaningful learning experience.

A pesar de su papel fundamental en la creación musical de las últimas décadas, el sintetizador no goza de un reconocimiento generalizado en las enseñanzas musicales de Cataluña, España. Este estudio examinó las prácticas educativas relacionadas con el sintetizador en las Enseñanzas Artísticas Superiores de Música de dicha región. Para ello, se llevaron a cabo entrevistas semiestructuradas a ocho docentes especializados en este instrumento. El análisis de datos se realizó siguiendo las directrices del Análisis Temático, lo que permitió identificar tres temas generales: (i) la enseñanza del sintetizador se orienta hacia objetivos creativos, (ii) el sintetizador se enseña de manera diferente dependiendo de la especialidad y el repertorio (iii) el sintetizador no goza de una modalidad instrumental propia. El artículo concluye con una discusión sobre la importancia de incorporar el sintetizador a las enseñanzas musicales para fomentar una educación más contextualizada y significativa.Apesar do seu papel fundamental na criação musical nas últimas décadas, o sintetizador não goza de amplo reconhecimento nos ensinamentos musicais da Catalunha, Espanha. Este estudo examinou as práticas educativas relacionadas ao sintetizador no Ensino Superior Artístico Musical da referida região. Para tanto, foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas com oito professores especializados neste instrumento. A análise dos dados foi realizada seguindo as diretrizes da Análise Temática, o que permitiu identificar três temas gerais: (i) o ensino do sintetizador é orientado para objetivos criativos, (ii) o sintetizador é ensinado de forma diferente dependendo da especialidade e do repertório (iii) o sintetizador não possui modalidade instrumental própria.
