Resumo: This article presents discussions about Otakar Ševčík's teaching procedures, a Czech violinist who broke with diatonic scales teaching tradition for violin initial learning with a totally different view, by publishing the Violin Method for Beginners op.6 in the late nineteenth century. Ševčík proposed the ‘Semitones System’ as a base of his teaching methodology instead of diatonic scales. Different qualitative results indicate the need and importance of in-depth studies regarding his pedagogical proposal for initial learning.

Different qualitative results indicate the need and importance of in-depth studies regarding his pedagogical proposal for initial learning.Este artículo analiza los procedimientos de enseñanza del violinista checo Otakar Ševčík que, a finales del siglo XIX, rompió con la tradición de enseñar escalas diatónicas en el aprendizaje inicial del violín, publicando el Método de Violín para Principiantes op.6 con una visión totalmente diferenciada en la época. En lugar de escalas diatónicas, Ševčík propuso el "Sistema de Semitonos", la base de su metodología de enseñanza. Los resultados cualitativamente diferenciados en el aprendizaje inicial indican la necesidad e importancia de estudios en profundidad sobre su propuesta pedagógica.Discute-se neste artigo, os procedimentos de ensino do violinista checo Otakar Ševčík que, no final do século XIX, rompeu com a tradição do ensino de escalas diatônicas no aprendizado inicial do violino, publicando o Método de Violino para Principiantes op.6 com uma visão totalmente diferenciada à época. Ao invés de escalas diatônicas, Ševčík propôs o ‘Sistema dos Semitons’, base de sua metodologia de ensino.
