Academic Literacies: Appraisal and social sanction about authorship and scientific integrity

Resumo: | Research integrity has been under scrutiny, especially in regard to the legitimacy of academic authorship. We aim to bring different perspectives to the debate, firstly by indicating how past and recent publications position themselves on the topic of authorship, and secondly by developing an appraisal analysis of lexical items that make social sanction available in discourse. We conclude by indicating which criteria validate authorship and the evaluation produced in the literature reviewed. Our results indicate that authoship credit is affected by power relations and personal interest but multiauthored work is gaining significance in richly informed research environments. |
