In order to define the foundations, in addition to the building loads, the types of foundations available, the soil type is an important characteristic to distinguish and define the type of foundation. In the context of deep foundations in soils with the presence of rock mass, the indicated foundation is the root foundation. However, to execute this type of foundation, specific techniques and knowledge are required. In order to characterize concepts and describe the execution of root piles in rock massifs and their execution particularities, this work addresses a case study of a real project, the execution of the foundation of a hospital project using this type of foundation, the root pile. The project has plateaus at different levels, with distinct characteristics of the rock massif, but with a unique foundation solution: the root pile. To understand this, the study used the Literature Review of the existing types of piles to then describe the processes of executing the root pile. The case study was able to obtain productivity on the different plateaus of the work, describing the execution of the foundation of the work, classifying the activities on each plateau. With the study, it was possible to understand that on the same terrain, with the same type of foundation, there are different execution characteristics and the use of different solutions. It was possible to describe the difficulties, solutions and consequences of the actions in this stage of execution on the different plateaus, in addition to the preparation of a checklist for the execution of root piles.
