This article aims at presenting and discussing general principles for the reform of teacher education programs in Brazil. In doing so, the text fulfills two missions: first, to register the work of a commission established at Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) to present proposals for the new context of reformulation of these programs at the University triggered by the approval of an educational law in 2015 and second, to share the work of this commission with a wider audience – in addition to that of the UFMG internal community. It is hoped that the article will contribute to rethinking teacher education models across the national territory - and, perhaps, outside it.
