The last decades were marked by the advance of technologies associated with the internet. Together with the emergence of information retrieval problems and difficulties associated with the representation and organization of information in institutions, organizations have invested in technologies and tools to address the new informational context. In this sense, corporate taxonomies have proved useful in responding to these longings. They exercise the function of both organizing and representing the informational environment through the hierarchy and standardization of terms and concepts. The widespread use of this instrument emphasizes the importance of studies that aim at an effective consolidation of the theoretical and practical foundation, with the intention of abandoning the intuitive and subjective process for its elaboration. The purpose of this article is to propose an Operational Procedure that guides in a detailed way the stages of construction and implementation of corporate taxonomies. However, there are several difficulties due to the lack of standardized methodology capable of providing efficient means to build a corporate taxonomy, capable of correlating areas and business processes, preserving the specificity of the language used in the organization. This procedure, elaborated by means of theoretical and practical observations experienced by the authors through consultative activities, will allow the conduction, application and verification of the stages in institutional environments.
