This study aims to understand the place of the Physical Department in the formation project of the Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) in Brazil, in the 1893-1929 period, based on the institutional investment on physical, intellectual and moral-religious formation. The sources mobilized to enable this project were: magazines and institutional documents ‒ pamphlets, letters, statutes and minutes. The early stages of implementation of the YMCAs in Brazil were few in investments for the constitution of the Physical Department, however, in the course of the institution’s consolidation, the speeches were altered related to the demands on the subject formation, inserting the Physical Department otherwise in acmista project.
