This work aims to analyze three English teachers’ narratives, through which are revealed experiences related to the process of teaching English in public institutions of Brazil. Based on the concept of experience (MICCOLI, 2010), we seek to comprehend what experiences emerge from these narratives and how they influence teachers’ teaching practice. Furthermore, we intend to analyze how the English teachers see themselves and what challenges they face in their work contexts. The results of this study showed that, in spite of all the experiences of difficulties and indiscipline revealed in the narratives, two of the teachers seem to still find motivation and hope in relation to their profession. Besides, we realize that the way the teachers see their reality, their students and their work are important to characterize their professional practice. Thus, we believe that the context and experiences portrayed throughout the narratives may be ways that guide these teachers’ actions in the classroom and, consequently, can enable reflections and make changes in their roles as educators.
