Trata-se de um estudo transversal com amostragem de conveniência. Os integrantes do grupo de infectados eram pacientes diagnosticados com hanseníase no Centro de Referência em Doenças Endêmicas e Programas Especiais (CREDEN-PES) Dr. Alexandre Castelo Branco da Secretaria Municipal de Saúde de Governador Valadares/MG e os do grupo controle foram provenientes do grupo de gerenciamento de doentes crônicos da Casa Unimed de Governador Valadares (MG). As informações de consumo alimentar foram obtidas por meio de um recordatório de 24 horas e a partir deste, avaliou-se a CATD utilizando dados do ensaio ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP). Com o intuito de comparar as características sociodemográficas, condições de saúde e CATD de grupos de alimentos, entre indivíduos adultos e idosos com e sem hanseníase foram realizados os testes de Mann-Whitney para comparação de medianas e Qui-Quadrado ou Exato de Fisher para comparação de proporções. Todas as análises foram realizadas com auxílio do software STATA® versão 13.1 adotando-se como nível de significância estatística 0,05. Foram estudados 79 indivíduos sendo a ingestão mediana de CATD de 7,86 mmol/dia. Os alimentos que mais contribuíram para a CATD nesta população foram o café, laranja, feijão e pão francês. Observou-se que a mediana de consumo de FRAP dos grupos de alimentos não diferiu entre indivíduos com e sem hanseníase, exceto para os grupos de óleos/gorduras (maior entre os indivíduos com hanseníase), das preparações (menor entre os adultos sem hanseníase) e das leguminosas/ oleaginosas (maior entre os idosos com hanseníase). Observou-se também que os adultos e idosos com hanseníase apresentaram uma menor escolaridade comparados aos sem hanseníase. Esse estudo apresenta uma descrição detalhada da CATD e principais contribuintes alimentares de indivíduos com hanseníase. Os dados revelam também, a necessidade de implementação de estratégias nacionais que objetivem a melhora da qualidade da alimentação desse grupo, com aumento do consumo de diferentes grupos alimentares e, consequentemente, uma ingestão de diferentes compostos com capacidade antioxidante, o que contribuirá para uma melhor CATD.The objective of this study was to estimate the CATD of adults and elderly with and without leprosy in the city of Governador Valadares (MG). This is a cross-sectional study with coexistence sampling. The members of the infected group were patients diagnosed with leprosy from the Reference Center on Endemic Diseases and Special Programs (CREDEN-PES) Dr. Alexandre Castelo Branco from the Municipal Health Department of Governador Valadares / MG and those from the control group were from the group management of the Unimed House of Governador Valadares (MG). Food consumption information was obtained by means of a 24-hour recall and from this the CATD was evaluated using data from the ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) test. In order to compare the socio-demographic characteristics, health conditions and CATD of food groups, between adult and elderly individuals with and without leprosy, the MannWhitney tests were used for comparison of medians and Chi-Square or Fisher's Exact for comparison of proportions. All analyzes were performed with the help of STATA® software version 13.1, adopting 0.05 as the statistical significance level. A total of 79 subjects were studied, with the median intake of CATD being 7.86 mmol/ day. The food that contributed most to CATD in this population were coffee, orange, beans and french bread. It was observed that the median FRAP consumption of the food groups did not differ between individuals with and without leprosy except for the oil / fats groups (> among leprosy subjects), of the (non-leprosy) and legumes / oilseeds (> among the elderly with leprosy). It was also observed that the adults and elderly with leprosy had a lower level of education compared to those without leprosy. This study provides a detailed description of CATD and major food contributors of leprosy patients.
