Resumo: The post-war historical transformations made possible the development of the means of production but, at its heart, brought serious consequences for biodiversity, profound impacts on human beings and the environment. Brazil influenced and was influenced by new discussions related to the Sustainable Development paradigm. Over the last few decades, international events, scientific research and social movements for preservation have waged political, collective struggles, which culminated in advances in environmental legislation. However, this critical and interdisciplinary understanding was not present in the field of Brazilian environmental education. The present research aimed to recover these relationships, in an interdisciplinary perspective, bringing to the center of school education the necessary overcoming of an individualistic perspective that does not reach the complexity of the Brazilian struggle in environmental preservation, including the new generations in the collective/political challenges facing Brazilian environmental preservation.

O Brasil influenciou e foi influenciado por novas discussões relativas ao paradigma do Desenvolvimento Sustentável. Ao longo das últimas décadas, eventos internacionais, pesquisas científicas e movimentos sociais de preservação travaram lutas políticas, coletivas, que culminaram em avanços nas legislações ambientais. Porém, essa compreensão crítica e interdisciplinar não se fizeram presentes no campo da educação ambiental brasileira.
