Resumo: | This article argues that studies on the forms of inequality and poverty that affect contemporary Indigenous Peoples must start from a macro-historical and micro-sociological perspective, in order to construct a definition of “indigenous poverty” sensitive to its diversity and complexity. In order to do so, it will seek to reconcile the debates about dependent capitalism and the socioeconomic processes of integration of Indigenous Peoples into specific colonial and capitalist systems, paying attention to the fact that these did not unfold in the same way in each place and over time, as evidenced by studies on interethnic contact in anthropology and ethnohistory, which privilege indigenous perspectives and transformations on these processes. The article will be supported by ethnographic contributions and denunciations of human rights violations of Indigenous Peoples in the Southern region of Brazil. |
