The Covid-19 pandemic has led to abrupt global changes, with its economic downturn felt across various sectors such as health, education, exports, tourism, and notably, the retail trade - a focal point of the analysis in this dissertation. The primary objective is to understand the organization of workers in Corumbá-MS to remain in the job market during the Covid-19 pandemic. The retail sector in Corumbá-MS assumes a pivotal role in the local economy, exerting a more substantial influence compared to other economic ativities in terms of activity, employment and the number of companies involved. It is characterized by fragmentation, marked by a significant presence of Bolivian traders and an intensive reliance on employment.Moreover, its footprint extends extensively along the Frei Mariano road. Methodologically, this research adopts a qualitative approach, deeming it pertinente to gather information on the experiences of traders in Corumbá- MS. Data collection involves recorded and written interviews with representatives from the Association of Commerce and Industry of Corumbá-MS and salespeople, with the aim of understanding sales and job maintenance strategies. The theoretical framework draws on border studies, Sociology, Geography, and other sciences that underpin scientific analysis. Investigating the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on retail trade workers in the border region and subsequently comparing store owners' sales from March 2020 to July 2022, along with examining the unemployment rate during this period, introduces a timely and ongoing discourse. This is particularly relevant as the economy grapples with the emergence of new coronavírus variants, an aspect yet to be fully explored in scientific research. In conclusion, aligning with the professional nature of the Postgraduate Program in Border Studies, this dissertation offers a tangible outcome in the form of a series of lectures tailored for traders in Corumbá-MS.
