Resumo: Haiti is a country marked by violence and social inequality, with a lot of precarious living conditions. These factors have made part of it population to migrate to other countries, looking for better living conditions, wich is known as Haitian diaspora. Brazil, and more specifically Cuiabá, has become a frequent destination from Haitian migrants since 2012 and, because of it, it’s important to evaluate how this population has been treated in our health services. All the people were informed about the aspects of this research and they agreed with it by signing a Free and Informed Consent Form. The instrument used to collect the data was a semi structured interview. The data were collected between december 2016 and march 2017. The interviews occurred in the subjects work enviroment, wich was the Policlínica do Planalto and the Municipal Health Office from Cuiabá-MT. The results were presented by analitic categories and interpretated according to the researcher reflections, based on the bibliographic literature about the contents emerged from the data. Results – The data collected allowed us to realize that there are too many barriers related to the interaction process between the professional and the Haitian migrant, that are very similar to those found in other studies, such as the language barrier, the prejudice and the cultural differences. On the other hand, we noted the wish from the interviewees to minimize these obstacles, revealed by their concern to the proper greeting. Final considerations – Some actions were proposed with the aim of helping the health professionals and, as consequence, improving the health care of this population, highlighting the importance of new researches on this subject and the sanitarist role in formulating social policies.
