Resumo: | According to the Ministry of Health (MH), traffic accidents and violence against people represents an important public health problem. The growth of accidents and violence cases has a strong impact on the Unified Health System (UHS) services and society. According to the Municipal Health Plan of the Sino p Health Secretariat, the mortality rate on accidents increased from 51.76 in 2013 to 58.49 in 2016, data showing that Sinop has an accident mortality rate bigger than the State of Mato Grosso (52.04) and Brazil (36.71). In view of the above, this study aimed to describe the traffic accident victims profile attended by the 4th Military Fire Brigade (MFB) of Sinop-MT in 2017. This is descriptive, documental research with a quantitative approach. Data collection took place after the Human Research Ethics Committee (Brazil Platform - CEP/CONEP) approval, through Occurrence Report data usedby the garrisons of the 4th MFB of Sinop/MT. The results show that the majority of automobile accidents affected the male sex (56.58%) in the age group between 20 and 59 years old (72.05%); occurring mainly at peak times, between 17:00 to 19:59 (29.42%) and 11:00 to 13:59 (18.89%); being downtown the area of greatest concentration of accidents (372); without significant differences between the days of the week. The vehicle driver is the main victim (57.89%), the accidents' code and nature reported a higher number involving motorcycles (74.37%), affecting mainly the upper (37.43%) and lower limbs (38.26%), being abrasions the major injuries (41.30%). The deaths were those evidenced at the accident site, 60% of the deaths were of male victims in accidents involving motorcycles. We conclude in the present study that the profile of automobile accidents victims attended by the 4th Military Fire Brigade of Sinop-MT in the year 2017, mainly involved the adult male population, drivers of vehicles, mainly motorcycles, in the downtown area and at peak times. Therefore, it is expected that this study will contribute to the competent authorities in the development of 12preventive and educational actions in order to reduce the number of automobile accidents, as well as the human and material losses caused as a result of the accidents. In addition, it is important to strengthen surveillance at peak times, as well as to seek and implement barriers to control accidents in the downtown area and some neighborhoods outlined in the survey. |
