The objective of the work is to verify the importance of agriculture for the economic growth of Mato Grosso. It is assumed that there is a positive influence of the agricultural sector on the rest of the economy, due to the growing results presented by agriculture, especially with regard to the export of primary products. The methodology used in the study used the lag or distributed method to assess the degree of influence between the GVA of the agricultural sector on the GVA of the non-agricultural sectors of the State. The results obtained through the model, confirm the adjustment in a period, indicating the existence of a positive influence for the current period, however, negative for the following period. The divergence is in the direction of the influence between the following sectors and studies of the current period, evidences the need to identify more the need to prevail and thus identify the effect that it is possible to identify on the contribution of agriculture as a driving force of the economy of the State.
