Desempenho diagnóstico do teste HbA1c em crianças e adolescentes: revisão integrativa

In this research, the objective was to verify in the literature, through an integrative review, studies that evaluated cutoff points of the glycated hemoglobin test (HbA1c) in the diagnosis of pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents. In June 2021, 12 studies were selected using PubMed, Medline, LILACS and IBECS databases. With the exception of PubMed, the databases were accessed through the virtual health library. In the search for the studies, the descriptors “Glycated Hemoglobin A”, “diagnosis”, “diabetes mellitus”, “children” and “adolescents” were used. All studies selected in this review included obese young people and evaluated the diagnostic performance of HbA1c for pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes and in all studies the HbA1c test showed a good diagnostic performance. Some authors evaluated Hba1c cut-off points different from the cut-off points determined by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and concluded that the reduction in the cut-off value has a greater sensitivity and specificity for the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes in children. However, few studies have investigated cutoff points different from those established by the ADA in children and adolescents.
