Resumo: | To analyze the implications of non-adherence to treatment for the health of the elderly being followed up in primary care with Systemic Arterial Hypertension (SAH). Study with collection of primary, prospective, cross-sectional, population-based, exploratory, quantitative studies. The research universe consisted of elderly men and women, with SAH from April to September 2017, living in the city of Barra do Garças, state of Mato Grosso. The sample (N = 235) consisted of elderly people followed up in fifteen (15) Family Health Units. The identification of these people took place through the medical records of families registered in health units. Once identified and in possession of their addresses, they were visited by the researcher and assistants, accompanied by the community health agent in the area assigned to the health unit. The selection for home visits was made randomly (randomization) in order to ensure the representativeness of the sample (N). The elderly were included in follow-up at family health units that allowed home visits and answered all data collection instruments were included. All those who expressed interest in not participating, those with communication difficulties, and those who did not complete the application form were not eligible for this study. The data were analyzed with the aid of the statistical package SPSS version 23, adopting a significance level of 5% (p <0.05). The characterization of the demographic, economic, social, and health-related aspects was carried out through absolute (n) and relative (%) frequency. For qualitative variables, descriptive statistics were used. For the quantitative variables, the median, mean, standard deviation, minimum and maximum were calculated. The normality of the data was verified using the Shapiro-Wilk test. It was concluded that living conditions and education level impact lifestyle and health, making it difficult to understand the disease. Social and economic variables directly influence health conditions. Multimorbidity are a common condition and have been influenced by socioeconomic factors, lifestyle and family structure. There was a predominance of SAH in women, aged 60-69 years, married, religious, with a low level of education, having a family income of up to one minimum wage. The results reinforce the need for treatment adherence in relation to SAH. Non-adherence to treatment in systemic arterial hypertension compromises treatment. The results reinforce the need to improve action strategies related to monitoring and health care for the elderly with SAH. |
