Resumo: | Internal combustion engines (ICE) are thermal machines for turning the internal energy of fuel in work and they are essential in numerous activities, being one of biggest responsible for human development. Since its inception, several alternatives have been studied to optimize its operation, involving the fuel consumption and its consequences on economy and environment. This work inserts this context, in order to study two alternatives that can be applied in any ICE. Firstly, the addition of ozone as complementary oxidant, using a generator of approximately 0.6 g.h-1 capacity, applying at the equipment three different air flows, giving about 11 ppm in the air intake. Another alternative is a fuel additive called DX Diesel Fuel with concentrations of 0.5 and 1.0 mL.L-1. The tests were applied in a dieselcycle motor-generator set that has 5 kW of maximum power and 4.6 kW of nominal power. For each treatment, two repetitions of 2,5 minutes were made with average load of 1, 2, 3 and 4 kW. It was carried out the survey of qualitative and quantitative factors that express the engine performance, among them is the hourly volumetric consumption, the specific consumption and the specific energy, which indirectly define the combustion quality in the ICE. The different treatments were both compared and it was concluded that there is no effect on energy efficiency at applied concentrations. Supposedly the concentrations of ozone and additive were not high enough to reach the expected effect and in the specific case of the use of the additive, it is also concluded that the time of use of the additive, was not able to intervene positively in fuel and / or engine efficiency. |
