Resumo: The study analyzed the importance of the Federal University of Paraná for the local/regional development of the city of Curitiba. A historical and econometric analysis was performed using panel data. The literature points to technological development or even the fiscal multiplier effect on the economy in generating local growth and development. The results show that UFPR has a significant importance in the number of graduates, masters and doctoral graduates in Curitiba and region. There is empirical evidence that expenditure on investments made by UFPR contributed to the municipality's economic growth.

Foi realizada uma análise histórica e econométrica por dados em painel. Diversos estudos apontam o desenvolvimento tecnológico ou ainda o efeito multiplicador fiscal na economia na geração do crescimento e desenvolvimento local. Os resultados demonstram que a UFPR tem uma representatividade significativa no número de concluintes da graduação, de mestrado e de doutorado para Curitiba e região.
