TRANSVERSAL THEMES IN BASIC EDUCATION: WHAT DO RESEARCH DEVELOPED FROM 2017 TO 2021 SAY?

Resumo: The Transversal Themes (TT) are urgent issues within the different areas of knowledge that make up the basic education curriculum, as they propose a link between school content and social issues. They were included in the national curriculum when the National Curriculum Parameters (PCN) were published as an alternative for developing more integrated and contextualized teaching. In this study, the objective was to analyze the scientific production of stricto sensu postgraduate programs in Brazil between 2017 and 2021 that investigated the approach of Transversal Themes in basic education. Searches were carried out in the CAPES Catalog of Theses and Dissertations, using the descriptors and combinations “transversal themes”; “transversal themes” AND “teaching practice”; “transversal themes” AND “teachers”; and “transversal themes” AND “teaching”, and 42 academic works were inventoried. The overview showed some gaps in terms of production on the subject. These include the geographical distribution of the studies, which is primarily limited to the South and Southeast regions of the country, and the need for greater coverage of the topics covered. It was concluded that, although more than two decades have passed since the publication of the PCN and the inclusion of the Transversal Themes in the curriculum, the proposal of teaching from the perspective of transversality and interdisciplinarity, which adopts themes of social relevance as the central focus of pedagogical work and seeks to promote citizen education, still requires a lot of reflection in the school and academic fields.

Fueron incluidos en el currículo nacional cuando se publicaron los Parámetros Curriculares Nacionales (PCN) como alternativa para desarrollar una enseñanza más integrada y contextualizada. En este estudio, el objetivo fue analizar la producción científica de los programas de posgrado stricto sensu en Brasil entre 2017 y 2021 que investigó el enfoque de los Temas Transversales en la educación básica. Se realizaron búsquedas en el Catálogo CAPES de Tesis y Disertaciones, utilizando los descriptores y combinaciones “temas transversales”; “temas transversales” Y “práctica docente”; “temas transversales” Y “profesores”; y “temas transversales” Y “enseñanza”, y se encontraron 42 trabajos académicos. La visión de conjunto mostró algunas lagunas en cuanto a la producción sobre el tema. Entre ellas, la distribución geográfica de los estudios, que se limita principalmente a las regiones Sur y Sudeste del país, y la necesidad de una mayor cobertura de los temas tratados. Se concluyó que, aunque han pasado más de dos décadas desde la publicación del PCN y la inclusión de los Temas Transversales en el currículo, la propuesta de enseñanza desde la perspectiva de la transversalidad y la interdisciplinariedad, que adopta temas de relevancia social como eje central del trabajo pedagógico y busca promover la educación ciudadana, aún requiere de mucha reflexión en el ámbito escolar y académico.Os Temas Transversais (TT) são assuntos urgentes no âmbito das diferentes áreas do conhecimento que compõem o currículo da educação básica, pois propõem uma articulação entre os conteúdos escolares e as questões sociais. Eles foram inseridos no currículo nacional quando da publicação dos Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais (PCN) como alternativa para o desenvolvimento de um ensino mais integrador e contextualizado. Neste estudo, o objetivo foi analisar a produção científica dos Programas de Pós-Graduação stricto sensu no Brasil entre os anos 2017 e 2021, que investigou a abordagem dos Temas Transversais na educação básica. Foram realizadas buscas no Catálogo de Teses e Dissertações da CAPES, utilizando os descritores e as combinações “temas transversais”; “temas transversais” AND “prática docente”; “temas transversais” AND “professores”; e “temas transversais” AND “ensino”, sendo inventariados 42 trabalhos acadêmicos. O panorama traçado demonstrou algumas lacunas em termos de produção sobre o tema. Dentre elas, destacaram-se a distribuição geográfica dos estudos, que se limita, prioritariamente, às regiões Sul e Sudeste do país, e a necessidade de uma maior abrangência em relação aos temas abordados.
