PEDAGOGICAL WORKSHOP IN CHEMISTRY LICENTIATE WITH EXPERIMENTS AND ALTERNATIVE MATERIALS FOR ELEMENTARY EDUCATION

The aim of this study is to describe the realization of a pedagogical workshop directed at future chemistry teachers targeting their qualification to develop experiments with alternative materials when working as teachers. It is an experience report from a training activity held in June 2017 during Chemist's Week at the IF Sertão Pernambucano in Petrolina-PE. All 36 participants are undergraduate students of the Chemistry Licentiate Degree course at this institution. In addition to reflecting upon experimenting for sciences teaching, five experimental practices were developed and the need for planning and linking theory and practice became evident, also the difference between demonstrative and participative activities, including the teacher as a mediator. Data collection about their evaluation of the training was through a three question, printed questionnaire, one of which was closed with Likert scale answers. The evaluation showed many potentials to be explored in the classroom while developing the experiments. Thus, the workshop involving activities focused on teaching natural sciences in Elementary Education may also be considered as complementary, necessary training for future chemistry teachers.
