Resumo: This article presents a study whose objective was to investigate the characterization of the guiding activity of elementary school students on the concept of mammals. As an epistemological assumption, it adopts the concept of action orientation present in the Theory of Planned Formation of Mental Actions and Concepts, according to which a didactic-formative experience is established in science classes. As a result, the characterization of the conceptual knowledge of these students was obtained in relation to the object model and the action model to identify mammals and their problematization in relation to what is expected from students of this level of education, being possible to conclude how far the level of learning and assimilation of this concept in relation to the model idealized as a reference.

Como supuesto epistemológico, adopta el concepto de orientación a la acción presente en la Teoría de la Formación Planificada de Acciones y Conceptos Mentales, según el cual se establece una experiencia didáctico-formativa en las clases de ciencias. Como resultado, se obtuvo la caracterización del conocimiento conceptual de estos estudiantes en relación al modelo de objetos y el modelo de acción para identificar mamíferos y su problematización en relación a lo que se espera de los estudiantes de este nivel de educación, siendo posible concluir cómo Aún queda lejos el nivel de aprendizaje y asimilación de este concepto en relación al modelo idealizado como referencia.Este artigo apresenta um estudo cujo objetivo foi investigar a caracterização da base orientadora sobre o conceito de mamíferos por parte de estudantes do ensino fundamental. Como pressuposto epistemológico, adota o conceito de orientação da ação presente na Teoria da Formação Planejada das Ações Mentais e dos Conceitosem função do qual se estabelece uma experiência didático-formativa nas aulas de ciências.
