THE STEAM APPROACH AS A POSSIBILITY TO COMBAT SCIENTIFIC NEGATIONISM AND ANTI-VACCIDENT MOVEMENT IN THE CENTRAL WEST REGION OF THE LEGAL AMAZON

Since the beginning of 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic was decreed, misinformation related to science had highlighted a serious problem to be faced by countries. In addition, the dissemination of false information by science-denying and anti-vaccine groups had caused a social problem related to public and collective health. For this reason, the study aims to reflect on scientific denialism and anti-vaccination, as well as showing the STEAM approach as a possibility of combat. The methodology is shaped in the qualitative approach of basic nature and in relation to the procedures as bibliographical. Scientific articles were consulted on Academic Google and Capes Journals, besides books, in the period from September 2021 to November 2022. The research reveals the growth of science-denying and anti-vaccine groups due to the advent of the internet and social networks, as well as the visibility of these groups during the Covid-19 pandemic with the dissemination of false news affecting disease control and the vaccination process. There was also an urgent need for teaching science with a teaching approach that enables scientific literacy. In this way, STEAM emerges as a possibility to combat scientific denialism and anti-vaccination, as it is a teaching approach that provides the student with protagonism, creativity, criticality and reflection.
