Resumo: The present work proposes a reflection on the evolution of human work, focusing on rural work, analyzing it from the beginning of human civilization to the contemporary world, observing the history of struggles in the countryside for the land, from an individualistic perspective, to a sustainable development bias that allows the economy to advance in harmony with the environment. It also analyzes how the preservation of the rural environment and the realization of sustainability implies rights and duties enshrined in the legal system, guaranteeing, through health protection standards, the environment of safe, healthy, balanced rural work with decent and sustainable quality of life, that rural property fulfills its social function.
