Resumo: Epidemiological study, prospective, concurrent cohort and following two years, 2012 and 2013 . Objective of this study was to analyze the factors associated with recurrence of falls in elderly community factors. The study population were 109 seniors who self-reported falls in 2012. Data collection occurred from January to March 2013, the homes of the elderly using a questionnaire with demographic issues of the elderly, their health condition, related to the fall data and the recurrence of falls. In addition, we used the Katz Index, the Lawton and Brody Scale and Mini - Mental State Examination. Data were coded and double entered into spreadsheets, Epi Info version 7.0 software and SPSS version 18.0, after editing the same, the typos were compared and corrected by Data Compare program. In the descriptive analysis of frequency, line charts and bar charts were used. Qualitative variables were expressed as absolute (n) and relative ( % ) frequency . For the bivariate analysis we sought associations between risk factors and the recurrence of falls by calculating the relative risk of cumulative incidences (and its confidence interval of 95 %). Multiple regression analysis was performed by Cox regression results showed a greater occurrence of falls in the female sex, age over 70 , low income and education, with chronic illness, sensory, independent and who use more than one drug problems . Regarding the characteristics of the falls, a higher incidence of falls from height within the home and endangering the health of the elderly and 77.6 % had recurrent falls. Of these the majority were female and 62.1 % had age group above 70 years. By observing the bivariate analyzes between socio-demographic variables and recurrence of fall, it was observed that the variable low education (up to 7 years of study) was associated with recurrence of falls and this has been statistically significant (RR = 1.53, 95% CI = 0.95 to 2.49, p = 0.015). And in relation to the elderly income, it was found borderline statistical associations in the elderly with low income (RR = 1.44, 95% CI - 088 to 1.34, p = 0.097. The results indicate that the occurrence of falls in the elderly can result in a significant health problem in view of the damage caused by this event in the elderly’ s life it is important to adopt preventive measures by both health professionals, family and society
