Resumo: | Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune, demyelinating, inflammatoryand harmful neuron disease. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the influence of Tai-Geiko on physical andfunctional aspects of people with MS. Methods: This is an experimental study with 19 participants divided into twogroups:anexperimental group (EG) (n= 10) which consisted of people who practicedTai-Geikotwice a week for 1 hour during 8 weeks, and a control group (CG) (n=09). Theparticipants were evaluated before and after the protocol, through the expandeddisability state scale (EDSS - maximum score of 6.0), strength test (kg/f) usingahand, scapular, and lumbar dynamometer; Timed Up and Go mobility test (TUG), motorandcognitive function by dual task test, and the stabilometric balance test (PlatformEMGsystem®). Statistical analysis was performed using the Shapiro-Wilk, pairedt-test,Mann-Whitney and Wilcoxon tests. Results: The GE group improved in 12 and the GC in 03 variables. The valuesarepresented in pre / post intervention, respectively. Experimental group: lumbarforce(38/52 kgf), TUG (11,15 / 9,35), locomotion velocity (519,40 / 393,70); Doubletask1(55,50 / 43,19) and 2 (53 / 39,32); (38,24 / 26,64) and sit (45,19; 29,84), theanteroposterior amplitude (11,35 / 8,76) and sit (12,40 / 9,94) ) And the anteroposteriorfrequency rise (1.00 / 1.56) and sit (0.8 / 1.25) (p <0.05). Control group: right handgripforce (26/29 kgf); TUG (9.89 / 8.70) and anteroposterior (11.84 / 9.53) stabilometricamplitude at the sitting moment (p <0.05). In the comparison between the groups, onlythe variable mean lateral amplitude presented a difference in the moment aftertheintervention (3.2 / 5.99, p = 0.01) and sit (3.47 / 5.01, p = 0.04). Conclusion: Tai-Geiko practice can be suggested as a complementary exerciseintherehabilitation of people with MS. |
