ESTUDO DE CONCEITOS DE ÁLGEBRA COM O AUXÍLIO DE MATERIAIS MANIPULÁVEIS

Resumo: This dissertation is linking to the Graduate Program in Teaching Science and Mathematics of the Franciscan University. The research has the main goal to investigate to what extent the use of handling material can contribute to the meaningful learning of algebraic concepts for students of a ninth grade class in the middle school. The research subjects were six students from a private school in the municipality of Santa Maria and the meetings happened in the opposite turn to that of the regular classes. The actions were organizing in two different moments. Initially a diagnostic test was applying that had as objective to identify the subsumpitons that the students had on the subject in question. The second moment was the development of a sequence of activities with the assistance of handling materials. The analysis of this moment was basing on an interpretative descriptive analysis. Data collection was donning through records of student activities and observations made by the teacher. The theory that guides research is Ausubel's Significant Learning Theory (1978, 2003). At the end of the development of the activities, it can be concluded that the construction of concepts related to Algebra can be favored by the use of handling materials, however, we emphasize that the development time of activities was a limiting factor, since the theme requires a greater number of activities and study time so that students can (re) construct the concepts related to this area of Mathematics.

A pesquisa tem como objetivo principal investigar em que medida a utilização do material manipulável pode contribuir para a aprendizagem significativa de conceitos de Álgebra para estudantes do nono ano do Ensino Fundamental. Os sujeitos da pesquisa foram seis alunos de uma escola da rede privada do município de Santa Maria e os encontros aconteceram no turno inverso ao das aulas regulares. As ações foram organizadas em dois momentos distintos, inicialmente foi aplicado um teste diagnóstico que teve como objetivo identificar os subsunçores que os alunos possuíam sobre a temática em questão. O segundo momento foi o desenvolvimento de uma sequência de atividades com o auxílio de matérias manipuláveis. A coleta de dados deu-se por meio dos registros das atividades dos alunos e das observações feitas pelo professor. A teoria que norteia a pesquisa é a Teoria da Aprendizagem Significativa de Ausubel (1978, 2003).
