Brazilian Social Thought and Historical Studies: a critical perspective

This article intends to make a critical and historiographical reflection about the term “Brazilian social thought”. We will resume its processes and changes in meanings and uses, as well as its incorporation into the field of Brazilian Social Sciences. Thus, we recompute the variants of the term in the country’s intellectual history, pointing out some of its uses and mobilizations in the press and, subsequently, its consolidation in the academic and university contexts, to attest to its conceptual relevance. At the end of the article, we propose a critical review about this perspective in sight of some contemporary theoretical questions that derive from the concept of intellectual culture.
