ABSTRACT The object of this article are two narratives of the Northeastern oral tradition called Pai-do-Mato, which were consecrated in writing by Cascudo. The objective is to dissect the narrative themes of each of two stories and extract from them cultural, traditional and verisimilous narrative traits as a methodological strategy to understand why and for what these two entities appear at that time and in that environment, what their social function in the society of that time and why, nowadays, they lose their peculiar properties and are transformed only into written folkloric literary pieces. The analysis carried out based on the theories of “Culture, Hybridity and Cultural Identity”, “Oral Tradition” and “Narrative Construction of Reality” shows that the loss of peculiar properties, active until practically the end of the last century, points out as consequences of the cultural phenomenon, media, intercultural hybridization, deterritorialization, identity mobility and the globalization of the postmodern world. The results are not conclusive because it is an eminently hermeneutic study.
