Com a intenção de melhorar a aprendizagem dessa disciplina, essa mesma escola tinha em sua proposta pedagógica a utilização de aulas de intervenção de Matemática que não traziam mudanças relevantes ao cenário existente. Em vista disso, a professora responsável por esse trabalho propôs uma reorganização dessas aulas por meio de um laboratório de ensino de Matemática, que neste trabalho foi ressignificado como uma sala de Matemática que seguiu as concepções educacionais de Dewey no que se refere a um ensino concebido por meio das experiências dos estudantes. A pesquisa de cunho qualitativo foi realizada com o objetivo de compreender como os estudantes atribuem significados para conceitos matemáticos quando estão em uma sala de Matemática concebida com uma educação Matemática fundamentada em experiência. As atividades realizadas tiveram como fio condutor um assunto presente na escola e de interesse às participantes da pesquisa; a má condição do campão de terra batida da escola. Essa problemática e o objetivo de colocar grama no campão possibilitaram o desenvolvimento de várias atividades que foram planejadas de acordo com as experiências e as necessidades que as alunas apresentavam no momento. As atividades seguiram os dois princípios de experiência, a interação e a continuidade (DEWEY, 2010). A pesquisa de campo foi desenvolvida durante as aulas de intervenção de Matemática no período contraturno, uma vez por semana, e se estendeu por 17 semanas com um grupo de 7 alunas do 9º ano do Ensino Fundamental de uma escola pública do município de Contagem  MG. Neste trabalho apresentamos uma narrativa à luz da análise da pesquisa de campo que teve como pano de fundo três conteúdos entretecidos: medida, triângulo retângulo e área. Os dados coletados (por meio de gravações em áudio e vídeo, fotografias, diário de campo da professora, trabalhos das alunas e entrevista semiestruturada) e analisados pelo método de análise de conteúdo apontaram que, em virtude de as atividades terem sido planejadas e realizadas em uma maneira interconectada, favoreceu que as estudantes utilizassem as experiências prévias em novas situações. Também permitiram inferir que as significações que as alunas atribuíram para os conceitos matemáticos  medida, triângulo retângulo e área  se deram em conformidade com o contexto dos seus “usos”. Dessa forma as compreensões foram se desenvolvendo à medida que as estudantes se envolviam em atividades práticas.Coherent with the Brazilian scenario, at the school where the teacher responsible for the research presented in this thesis teaches, the learning of mathematics was much to be desired. In order to improve the learning of this subject matter, this same school included mathematics intervention classes in its pedagogical proposal, but these classes did not significantly change the existing scenario. In view of this, the teacher responsible for this thesis proposed a reorganization of these classes through the use of a mathematics laboratory, that in this research was resignified as a mathematics room based on educational ideas of Dewey that refer to an education based on the experiences of the students. The research, qualitative in nature, was conducted in order to comprehend how students attribute meaning to mathematical concepts when they are in a mathematics room where mathematics education is based on experience. The activities carried out had as a theme a problem present in the school and of interest to the participants of this study; the poor condition of the school‟s dirt soccer field. The goal of putting grass on the field enabled the development of various activities that were planned according to the experiences and needs of the students. The activities were developed based on the two underlying principles of experience: interaction and continuity (DEWEY, 2010). The field research was developed during mathematics intervention classes outside of school hours once a week for 17 weeks with a group of seven ninth grade students at a public school in the city of Contagem – Minas Gerais. This thesis presents a narrative based on the analysis of data from the field research that emphasizes three interwoven concepts: measure, right triangle and area. The data collected (through audio and video recordings, photographs, the teacher‟s field notes, student‟s written assignments and semi-structured interviews) and analyzed using content analysis showed that activities planned and carried out in an interconnected fashion favored student use of previous experiences in new situations. The analysis also showed that the meanings that the students attributed to the mathematical concepts – measure, right triangle and area – were done so in accordance with the context of their "uses".
