Departamento de História, Instituto de Ciências Humanas e Sociais, Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto.Este trabalho realiza um estudo acerca das alforrias e de outros privilégios prometidos aos cativos e libertos da região de Guarapiranga (MG) (c: 1820 – 1871). Partindo do princípio de que os desejos de última vontade eram concretizados somente após a morte do testador através da abertura do testamento, a pesquisa também tem como propósito verificar a confirmação das prerrogativas anotadas no documento de prestação de contas dos testamentos. Este procedimento permite verificar se as alforrias e os legados registrados para os cativos e libertos foram revestidos em ganhos plenos. Para atingir os objetivos propostos, foi examinado um conjunto documental composto por Traslados de Testamentos, Inventários Post Mortem, Prestação de Contas dos Testamentos, Listas Nominativas de Habitantes (1831/32), Ações Cíveis e um Processo-Crime. Para compreensão do processo da alforria levou-se em consideração os principais acordos entre senhores e cativos no cotidiano da escravidão. Além disso, analisou-se o perfil social dos senhores que prometiam a liberdade, as variáveis demográficas dos alforriados, os fatores que influenciavam a concessão e os principais tipos de alforrias. Tendo em vista que os escravos não adquiriam somente a manumissão, examinou-se, ainda, os principais legados anotados para os escravos e libertos bem como a razão de alguns senhores terem nomeados alguns dos seus cativos como herdeiros. Por fim, para confirmar o recebimento das benesses, foram identificados os testamenteiros e as principais formas usadas para demonstrar a quitação das alforrias e de outros legados.This research does a study about manumissions and about another privileges promised to slaves and freedmen from Guarapiranga (MG) (c: 1820-1871). Assuming that the testers' will were concretized only after the tester' death through the opening of wills, this research also proposes to verify the confirmation of rights (manumissions and legacy) noted on the will estate proceeding documents. This procedure allows verifying if the manumission and the legacy registered for slaves and freedmen were reversed in full gains. In order to reach the proposed aim, it was examined a group of documents composed by wills, inventories post mortem, will estate proceedings, nominative list of inhabitants (1831/32), civil actions and a criminal case. To comprehend the manumission process, it was considered the main negotiations between masters and slaves. Besides, it was analyzed the masters' social profile who promised the freedom, the freedmen's demographic variables, the factors that influenced the concession of freedom and the main types of manumission. In view that slaves did not acquired only manumission, this study also examined the main legacy noted to slaves and freedmen and the reason for some masters appointed some of their slaves as heirs as well.
