Departamento de História, Instituto de Ciências Humanas e Sociais, Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto.Esta dissertação tem como objetivo o estudo do De Medicina de Celso, um escritor latino que floresceu no primeiro século d. C. A análise privilegia os aspectos sociais deste texto, investigando se um tratado técnico da Antiguidade é capaz de refletir as relações sociais que subjazem à sua produção. Este tratado é investigado, assim, a partir de uma perspectiva sociopolítica, questionando-se também em que medida o De Medicina de Celso se refere a uma fase específica de integração no Mediterrâneo. Nós concluímos que certas peculiaridades da técnica médica como, por exemplo, a dietética, reflete de forma mais explícita a hierarquia social romana, especialmente quando grupos de indivíduos, apresentados pelo autor, são inseridos em seu contexto. O conjunto de técnicas e elementos que constituíram a arte médica na Antiguidade é apresentado por Celso através de padrões retóricos e filosóficos que se tornaram possíveis somente como resultado de interações culturais, durante um processo seletivo de integração.This dissertation aims at the study of the De Medicina, of Celsus, a Latin writer who flourished in the first century AD. The analysis privileges the social aspects of this text, investigating if a technical text from Antiquity was able to reflect the social relations that underly its production. This treaty is thus analysed from a sociopolitical perspective, and it is also inquired in which measure Celsus’ De Medicina refers to a specific phase of integration in the Mediterranean. We conclude that certain peculiarities of medical technique, for instance dietetics, reflect more explicitly Roman social hierarchy, especially when the groups of individuals presented by the author are inserted in their context.
