Resumo: A História da Matemática (HM) representa uma ferramenta pedagógica que pode ser considerada como uma metodologia de ensino promissora para o ensino e a aprendizagem em Matemática. Assim, discute-se neste artigo teórico, a Perspectiva sociocultural da HM como uma possibilidade didática, em que a época na qual o conhecimento matemático foi construído e, também, o contexto sociocultural no qual esse conhecimento foi desenvolvido devem ser analisados. Assim, conhecer a HM pode instrumentalizar os professores para entenderem algumas dúvidas e questionamentos dos alunos, que podem parecer simples à primeira vista, mas se forem analisados historicamente, foram problemas que ocuparam, durante séculos, as mentes grandiosas de muitos matemáticos.

In this theoretical article, the sociocultural perspective of the History of Mathematics as a didactic possibility is discussed, primarily the need to consider the context in which mathematical knowledge along with its sociocultural contexts was developed.
