Resumo: This article is a reflection on the formation of the Brazilian literary canon, especially in its modern formulation of the early twentieth century, when even a pre-modern literary tradition built by newer acts politically to exclude from his repertoire authors not linked to their aesthetic expectations. Therefore the role of intellectual, writer polygraph and foremost man of letters, Gustavo Barroso and his relationship with the Pre-Brazilian modernism, considering categories such as personal capital and cultural capital, as Pierre Bourdieu (2010), demonstrate how the author is moved to the edge of the exclusion period in a tacit.
