Resumo: The purpose of this article is to discuss the nature of the Haroldo Maranhão collection, currently held at CENTUR (Tancredo Neves Cultural Center). It begins by discussing concepts of libraries, collections and literary archives, and then maps the history of the emergence of literary archives in France and Brazil. Next, it demonstrates how the library and the writer’s documents from Pará state, acquired through a cooperative agreement between the State Secretary of Culture and the Rio Doce Company in 2001, constitute a literary archive, which resulted from the collector’s activities. In addition, it seeks to demonstrate the possibilities of exploring documents of the literary archive in question. An example of this potential is the analysis of the documents related to the writer’s published literary texts, which include correspondence with editors and accounting documents related to the sale of his books.

Em um primeiro momento discute os conceitos de biblioteca, coleção e arquivo literário para, em seguida, mapear a história do surgimento dos arquivos literários na França e no Brasil. Em seguida pretende demonstrar que a biblioteca e os documentos do escritor paraense, adquiridos graças a um convênio de cooperação firmado entre a Secretaria de Estado e Cultura e a Cia Vale do Rio Doce no ano de 2001, constituem um arquivo literário, resultante da atividade de um colecionador.
