Brazilian bibliographic heritage: a study on the National Archive library collection

Objective: This article aims to initiate a discussion that will consider that the National Archives Library can be understood as part of the Brazilian documentary heritage. The idea is supported by the set of old books, some classified as rare, whose relationship with the country can be considered undeniable. In addition, this library became the guardian of books that can be considered as scientific memory of archivology in Brazil. Thus, considering that the National Archives of Brazil has an archive classified as Braziliian Cultural Heritage, the research aims to try to understand the role of this library, which is created, still in the 19th century to be complete to the research developed within the Institution. Method:  As part of the methodology, the article will present the synthesis of a conceptual discussion about the conceptual of Cultural Heritage in the context of the library that is part of the National Archives of Brazil. For this, a historiographical narrative objective will be made to explain the role of this library Result: The aspects dealt with in the text aim to focus on the concern of safeguarding the library’s collection that is complementary to that of safeguarding the library’s collection that is complementary to that of rhe archive itself, establishing solid foundations to justify the existence of a library that contributes to the formation of the bibliographic heritage located in the largest archival institution in the country, the National Archives. Conclusions: Although little known, the collection of the National Archives library has an inestimable value that needs to be preserved, with collections that must be considered cultural heritage in the set of historical archival documentation itself. The aim is to demonstrate that the library should not be considered as an attachment, but an integral part of the cultural heritage complex of the National Archives of Brazil.
