Resumo: This article aims to reflect on the difficulties faced by women in full contact sports, highlighting the social representations built on the female role. The woman has long been prevented from practicing modalities of full contact such as football, rugby and many types of fight, because they were considered for men to practice. Today, although they may participate in these arrangements, women face other challenges, such as lack of visibility, incentives, investment and infrastructure. In the media, sportswomen tend to be valued for their body beauty and are constantly portrayed as muses of sport. The Olympic Games of 2016 are an opportunity for visibility and growth of female athletes. For this, it is important that the Brazilian Olympic Committee, the Confederations and the media disclose sports without reaffirming social stereotypes, pursuing the break of barriers and gender stigmas.
