Resumo: This article tries to discuss the importance that the chronicles happened to have for Jornal dos Sports (JS) from the decade of 1940 in the city of Rio de Janeiro. To do so, we divided our analysis into four parts, being the first responsible for brief explanations about the periodical studied besides the survey of questions guiding the research. In a second moment, we dedicated ourselves on the general characteristics of the chronicle and how much these were well explored by the JS. Next, we think about the specific nuances of sports chronicle, which interacts dialectically between authorial subjectivity and the objectivity of a press that struggles to consolidate its modernization process throughout the middle of the 20th century. Finally, we can observe examples of the Literary / journalistic production of one of JS's most enduring and famous chroniclers: Manoel Vargas Neto.

Para tanto, dividimos nossa análise em quatro partes, sendo a primeira responsável por breves explicações sobre o periódico estudado além do levantamento de questões norteadoras da pesquisa. Em um segundo momento, nos dedicamos sobre as características gerais da crônica e o quanto estas foram bem exploradas pelo JS. A seguir, pensamos sobre as nuances específicas do cronismo esportivo, que interage de forma dialética entre a subjetividade autoral e a objetividade de uma imprensa que luta pela consolidação de seu processo de modernização ao longo da metade do século XX.
