Resumo: | The teaching of microbiology is extremely important because this science that talks about bacteria, fungi, yeasts and viruses is related to health, hygiene, interactions with the environment, and advances in biotechnology, also considering a special look at Biology Teaching. Currently, Biology classes are mostly taught in a traditional way, where dense information is passed on in a tedious and conventional way through lectures. The study of microorganisms often links the various benefits that they can promote to society, however there is an important side that can be overlooked to diseases, among which are Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) which also present other problems, such as prejudice and misinformation dissemination. Because they are microscopic beings and lack efficient teaching and learning strategies, the teaching of microbiology becomes very abstract for students, requiring the development of activities that provide effective teaching and student protagonism. The present work was developed in a state school of Serra de São Bento-RN, with the participation of 25 students from the 2nd year A, from May 2018 to May 2019. The project aimed to promote strategies for the learning’s promotion. Microbiology, starting with a pre-test to access students' prior knowledge and a post-test to access the percentage of content set after the proposed activities are applied. Other activities were: preparation of alternative culture media, Gram staining, smear preparation, microorganism modeling, seminars, lecture and field class. The methodological character of the study was a qualitative and quantitative research of participant observation. The qualitative results corroborated the importance of the themes by the description of student satisfaction and that, with the application of alternative strategies, aroused the interest and rapport among the students. The effectiveness of the methodology employed was verified with the application of the post-test which, applied 6 months after the pre-test, showed a higher percentage of correct answers than the pre-test questionnaire result. By guiding young people, the school encourages the development of these students, contributing positively to a better society. |
