The research aims to determine the progress and challenges of Constitutional Amendment 72/2013/EC unionized female domestic workers in the city of João Pessoa. Contextualizes the history of the professional category in Brazil and the struggle for recognition of the profession and equal rights. It presents a critical reflection of domestic work and domestic employment and the intersection with gender, race and class in the context of the sexual division of labor. However, capitalism does not guarantee the emancipation of women, because it depends on the work of those in the reproduction of capital, ie serving the capital in the private space of the house. However, faced with these contradictions, domestic workers add to other emancipatory struggles that enhance their demands, which resulted in the EC 72/2013. Research has demonstrated the social impact of the new legislation as it enabled a recovery of citizenship of one of the largest occupational contingent that country, the maids. Thus, it doubled the number of affiliated / in the STTD in João Pessoa / PB, and rekindled the struggles of labor movements. On the other hand, the cultural trait of slavery is still present in this occupation black women serving each other, as well as the exploitation of the working day and informal setting. To some extent, the legislation represents a breakthrough to widespread deregulation that marked the previous period. However, is advancing while one-way delay as it follows the current process of lowering of workers' rights by keeping the housework at the base of the social pyramid.
