Memory and cultural identity are built on the history and traditions of a folk. It is through narratives that generations learn about its origin and about the events that shaped its culture. Considering the importance of preservation to keep these stories and traditions alive, this research analyzes the construction of memories and cultural identities of the Quilombola Community of TerreiroNaçãoXambá, in Olinda, Pernambuco, Brazil, by understanding that this preservation contributes to the feeling of belonging and common values. Using the typology of qualitative research and as a methodological approach documentary and bibliographic. Its research universe is the Quilombola Community of TerreiroNaçãoXambá, and as subjects the members who make up the hierarchy in NaçãoXambá. The data collection instrument of the research is a semi-structured interview, which proved to be efficient in order to trace the profile of the investigated group, as well as to collect data that are consistent with the specific objectives established to achieve the general objective. The results obtained show that the Quilombola Community understands the importance of preserving the memory and cultural identity of the group. We conclude that the construction of memories and identities is a complex process, intrinsically linked to the history, culture and struggle of this community, emphasizing the importance of preserving and respecting their traditions as a vital means to strengthen their memories and identities.
