Resumo: | It is well known that homosexual relationships have always been the target of prejudice and stigmatization in different societies. This phenomenon has sharpened our theoretical curiosity from our professional experience, since, working as a military police officer, it was possible to observe specific situations of a profession marked by virility and chauvinism, dominated by a masculine belief with a strong stigmatizing bias. The aim of this dissertation was to analyze the behavior of a group of military police officers from the State of Paraíba, who presented a homosexual orientation, in view of the institutionalized and legitimized masculinity standards in the Corporation, through its regulations, in particular, Decree No. 8,962 of March 11, 1981, which provides for the Disciplinary Regulations of the Military Police of the State of Paraíba and provides other measures. The research had a qualitative character, with levels of field, documentary, bibliographical, of ethnographic inspiration. For the data collection, a semi-structured interview script was used, and for the interpretation of the data, the speech analysis. The process of masculine domination was worked out and the differences between the sexes were established according to the biological distinctions, instituting a valorization of the masculine to the detriment of the characteristics related to "being a woman". We also discussed ways of exercising moral austerity, when the prohibition of homosexual behavior was confirmed, the performativity of the military police on the obligation to respond to the military habitus and the actions of resistance to the normalization of their behavior guided by virility. Finally, the interviews with the police of different operational units of Paraíba were analyzed. The results showed that these professionals stylized their bodies to meet the gender performances imposed according to biological sex, reproducing compulsory heterosexuality. However, it was possible to identify parodies about the military habitus by homosexual officers, as resistance to institutional norms. |
