Constituição da brasilidade linguística em cartas pessoais: a concepção de língua de Mário de Andrade e Manuel Bandeira

This study entitled "Constitution of linguistic Brazilianness in personal letters: the design of language within Mario de Andrade and Manuel Bandeira" was a piece of work thought to understand the forms of constitution and construction of these authors' discourses in their personal correspondence, whose issue was mainly on language or national language. It is unanimous among literary critics, that language, especially the one used in their works, is visibly marked by identity bias, with linguistic experiments that seeks greater identification with the Brazilian way of using Portuguese. In this way, our corpus is composed of a set of their personal letters, exchanged between Mário de Andrade and Manuel Bandeira during the 22 years of friendship. All this material was collected, cataloged and published from the personal collection of the author by a group of Professors from USP (The University of São Paulo), having been published and signed by Moraes (2001).. To guide our analysis, we have used the principles of critical discourse analysis, especially those of Norman Fairclough (2001) that work with the three-dimensional model of language - text, discursive practice and social practice. Then, our analysis followed the analytical tripod model, noting the inseparability between these components for the understanding and the constitution of the discursive phenomenon on the linguistic factor of the modernist authors. For the preparation of this theory, we have adopted the contributions of textual linguistics, some of Michel Foucault's concepts, especially the discursive formations, plus the contributions of the social sciences, especially those of historical materialism and some of its theorists. As we look into the issue of the language in these modernist authors, our work aimed to contribute to the discourse studies, and help elucidate this relentless pursuit of Brazilianness that is revealed in the textual fabric itself, noticed in these authors’ speeches, as it is contrasted with their social discursive practices. Thus, we leave our contributions on this theme, the design of language in the modernists, and their debates and speeches on the subject, in addition to understanding the phases, intellectual movements, social constructions, ideologies, whether aligned or not with the hegemonic discourses of that time which built a new way of perceiving Brazil, of translating it, and representing it. Thus, it is of great importance the dialogue established by Andrade and Bandeira, for because of it or rather throughout the speeches of these two authors, it was possible to understand the changes and processes that Brazilian society needed to development of a national identity, particularly through these authors’ linguistic innovations in their texts.
