Resumo: | : Brazil stands out as one of the largest producers of sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) in the world. Among pests of economic importance for the culture, the species Diatraea saccharalis and Diatraea flavipennella (Lepidoptera: Crambidae), stand out due to the wide spread throughout the country, although the latter is restricted mainly to some states in the Northeast. Because of its efficiency in locating the larvae, as well as their specific use of parasitoid Cotesia flavipes Cameron (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), it has been the most efficient method for borer control, which is considered the largest biological control program in the world. This study aimed to analyze subsidies that provide information about the potential of these control insect pests in the state of Paraiba. The experiments were conducted in the Invertebrate Zoology Laboratory, Department of Biological Sciences, Universidade Federal da Paraíba (LABZOO/CCA/UFPB), Areia/PB, it is divided into two papers. In the Paper 1: aimed to evaluate the biology and the preference behavior of wild and lab populations of C. flavipes between species of Diatraea, as well as establish a relationship between physical characteristics and host species parasitism. The wild population of C. flavipes presents preference and better performance in parasitize D. flavipennella. The cross between the wild and lab populations of C. flavipes is necessary for the mass release of parasitoids in the field is efficient. In the Paper 2: aimed the rot-borer complex present in the sugarcane culture from Brejo Paraibano microregion, its population fluctuation and to evaluate the attractiveness of these insects for different varieties of sugarcane. The survey was conducted at Fazenda Engenho Macaíba of the Company AGRO INDUSTRIAL MACAÍBA LTDA, in the municipality of Alagoa Nova - PB. There was a correlation between the population fluctuation of the species D. flavipennella and the genus Telchin sp. with meteorological elements average temperature and precipitation. Irrigated areas with vinasse are more attractive and present higher density of borer complex when compared with non irrigated areas. |

There was a correlation between the population fluctuation of the species D. flavipennella and the genus Telchin sp. with meteorological elements average temperature and precipitation. Irrigated areas with vinasse are more attractive and present higher density of borer complex when compared with non irrigated areas.O Brasil se destaca como um dos maiores produtores de cana-de-açúcar (Saccharum spp.) no mundo.
