This dissertation focuses on the experience of social work professionals with the executing agencies of public health policies, particularly mental health, brings a reflection on the professional demands placed upon the social workers, professional skills in the substitute services, tools used for technical and operating performance of their activities and the main difficulties enrolled with practice. The survey was conducted in the cities of Ducks and Piancó which are considered as strategic nodes in the towns of Patos and Piancó which are considered as strategic poles in the backwoods of the state and currently have been referred to the treatment of patients with mental disorders. Experience has shown that there were 03 CAPS in Patos and 03 CAPS in Piancó besides Therapeutic Residence Services and a detoxification unit for users of alcohol and other drugs in the latter place. The field of study covered the 06 CAPS identified, since these institutions the social worker was not present in the technical staff totaling 06 institutions surveyed. The sample was composed of social workers employed in the services offered, a total of 12 existing professionals, 02 of each CAPS searched. As a technique for data collection, we chose bibliographic research as a way to deepen the analysis inherent in the object of study and application of questionnaires with a semi-structured script. To record the speeches of the professionals involved, it was used the recording via digital device. Finally, the study of quantitative nature was outlined in empirical categories, especially the professional skills within the institution, the concept of mental health on professional view, the main demands put to the social worker, the contribution and professional liaison with the service network and the difficulties in daily practice. In conclusion, we say that the analysis showed that the Mental Health guided by the premises of the Psychiatric Reform movement, enables the opening of a wide range of performance of Social Services, the historical demands put to the profession are present in this joint, requiring therefore the use of technical equipment-operating to promote access to fairer and more egalitarian social conditions, aiming at finding a democratic and civic social rehabilitation to individuals with mental disorders.
