Resumo: | The study proposed to carry out a comparative analysis of the increase in user safety on the stretch between KM 667 and KM 671 of the BR-376 / PR highway, with the implementation of the two road escape areas. Through bibliographic research, the types of escape areas present on Brazilian highways were identified, as well as the technical criteria that involved decision making in choosing the location of the two study escape areas. Statistical analyzes of the occurrences of accidents were also carried out before and after their implantation, verifying whether the devices are effective for improving the safety of users. It has been identified that there are six escape areas in Brazil, all of which are holding boxes and have similar characteristics, except for the KM 667 of the BR-376 / PR highway, which has a gantry that reduces the time of removal of the vehicle that enters the exhaust box. Based on the technical concepts raised, it was possible to analyze that the escape areas under study were implanted in places that precede the sharpest curves and in the final stretch after descending ramps. Evaluating the data before and after the implantation of the devices, it was noticed that there was a reduction of 20.97% of accidents in the implanted areas, showing an increase in the safety of users. |

Por meio de pesquisas bibliográficas identificou-se os tipos de áreas de escape presentes nas rodovias brasileiras, bem como os critérios técnicos que envolveram a tomada de decisão para escolha da localização das duas áreas de escape de estudo. Também foram realizadas análises estatísticas das ocorrências de acidentes antes e após a sua implantação, averiguando se os dispositivos são eficazes para a melhoria da segurança dos usuários. Foi identificado que há seis áreas de escape no Brasil, sendo que todas são caixas de retenção e apresentam características semelhantes, exceto a do KM 667 da rodovia BR-376/PR que possui um pórtico rolante que reduz o tempo de remoção do veículo que adentra a caixa de escape. Com base nos conceitos técnicos levantados foi possível analisar que as áreas de escape em estudo foram implantadas em locais que antecedem as curvas mais acentuadas e no trecho final após rampas descendentes.
